Things To Do In Alaska: Visit the Matanuska Glacier

Right before I went on my great adventure across the Atlantic, I went up to the great state of Alaska again - during one of the most gorgeous weeks of August. Since I was there for a full week, I was determined to get out and see something new.

In particular, I wanted to get close to a glacier. I seriously, love glaciers and I can't get enough of them. I've been to ones in Alaska, Montana, Alberta, and New Zealand - and I'm always simply astounded by them. So to the Matanuska Glacier I went, along with one of my awesome adventurous coworkers.

Things You Should Do in Alaska: Drive the Seward Highway From Anchorage to the Portage Glacier

If you find yourself in Anchorage with a couple of hours to spare, a drive down the Seward Highway to the Portage Glacier is a must do.

The Seward Highway itself is a simply gorgeous route, designated as a National Scenic Byway. In it's entiretly it runs the 125 miles in between Seward and Anchorage. If you have time for a full day trip, you can take it all the way to Seward. However, if you're more like me and end up with just a couple of hours to spare you can drive the first half from Anchorage down to the Portage Glacier and take in some great Alaskan views.

Gluten Free In Anchorage, Alaska: Returning After Two Years

It's been almost exactly two years since I was last in Anchorage, but 2012 will be a pretty Alaska heavy year for travel. I've already got two other trips planned in July and August. On this trip I was able to find some great new-to-me gluten free friendly eateries that I will definitely be returning to. I also visited some old favorites and was pleasantly surprised with a new menu addition at one of them.

Gluten Free In Anchorage, Alaska

This is another long overdue post, but I'm finally getting around to it.  Surprisingly, Anchorage was not the most difficult place to travel to while being gluten free. I was able to find a number of places that were understanding and receptive, I ended up using my travel cards a lot here and that worked very well.
