Things You Should Do In Seattle, Washington: Visit Chihuly Garden

I'm not sure I had ever really heard of Chihuly before my visit to the Garden. Although, now thinking back on it, I've seen his work before.

The Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition in Seattle Center is pretty darn spectacular and totally worth a visit - there's even a discount for those of us that live in King County! There's an inside portion that just looks out of this world and an outdoor portion that makes my imagination just run wild. An unexpected portion of the Exhibition is the Theater - don't miss this! There are a number of short films depicting the creation of other Chihuly exhibits from around the world. The videos about his installations in Venice and Jerusalem were so captivating.

These pictures are just a small taste of all the gorgeous pieces throughout the exhibit - hopefully just enough to get you to visit.

With dark walls and the lights trained perfectly on the glass, it feels like you've been transported into a different world. This particular piece was part of the Sea Life Room and I absolutely loved the little starfish! It's so amazing to see the intricate creations that created with Chihuly's techniques.

In the eight galleries of the exhibition hall, the Persian Ceiling room, stood out to me because of the amazing light reflected through the glass creations an onto the white walls. It stands in contrast to the other rooms where the focus is not on the glass alone.

The Glasshouse is a complete change from the Exhibition Hall; the combination of the long winding sculpture and the Space Needle towering above is just an amazing site.

The Gardens were my favorite part of the Exhibition hands down. I love the infusion of art in nature, there's something about it that just sparks my imagination and makes it run wild. As I was photographing the different sites, I couldn't help but think of The Mysteries of Harris Burdick; a collection of images and few words that inspire their own stories.

This final sculpture in the garden was my favorite, probably because of the raw and unfinished look to the glass. The gorgeous color doesn't hurt either.

Anyway, I've hope I've sparked you interest on the Chihuly Garden - so if you're local, make sure to go! If you're not, the exhibit is considered a "long-term" one, so it should be around for awhile. It will be interesting to see what may change in the gardens as the plants grow, so I guess I'll just have to go back!

Have you ever been to a Chihuly Exhibition?
